Fit To Square is a solo project created by me, Eric Akers. After years of playing in cover bands I decided to sit down and write some original music. You may be wondering: Why the name Fit To Square?

For over 20 years now I’ve been a graphic designer. “Fit To Square” is a shortcut command to fit content into a desired area. I’ve always felt like my music doesn’t fit a specific genre, and I love irony. VoilĂ , the perfect name! My music isn’t for everyone, but I’m certainly proud of the songs presented here.

I wrote all the songs except for the obvious cover of Fade Into You. I also played all the instruments and recorded and mixed all the parts. I left mastering up to someone else because I really wanted a polished professional sheen to these songs.

I do hope you enjoy them.

CDs are here!

Only twice in my life have I formally gotten CDs pressed. Once in 1997 with my band Velvet Jones, and now in 2018. Back then I had a great supporting cast of musicians and songwriters, along with a fabulous singer. This feels extra special because this was all me. Hashtag Blessed, Mofos.

CDs are pressed

Got notice yesterday that the CDs are done and in transit. Super excited to see how the print job came out. My color laser printer wasn’t the best quality to determine how cool they’ll look.

Final sign off

I think I’ve listened to the masters long enough to sign off on them. For those interested, my process for mixing and mastering is usually the same. I listen to the mix on my studio monitors first and make sure they sound right. Then I listen in my headphones, usually on a walk. That will give me the best indication of a good stereo balance. Lastly, I’ll check the mix in my Volkswagen Sportswagon. The stereo is stock, but really fantastic and balanced in the low frequencies. I know I got the mix right when it sounds good in the car.

The masters are on Soundcloud. So you can hear them on my music or album page. I’m also getting CDs pressed if anyone is interested. Send me an email through my contact page and I’ll send you one for free.

I’m also totally down for recording and mixing any artists out there. My studio is ready and willing. You can debate that the music I put out isn’t for everyone. That’s fine, and I get that, but I’m proud of the mixing job I did.
